Dedicated to Iraqi Citizens who face the pain of war and disruption in their country
Eves In Baghdad
I close my eyes as I lay down to slumber The sirens of wartime
fill the sky The echoes of whistling and falling Bombs and missiles resound in my ears The detonations of explosions nightly Fill my mind with apprehension… Will my fellow citizen be there tomorrow? Will
my local market store Be a place of rubble and debris Will my place of worship and history Become a commodity of past Will the infirmary I need Still be available at the same place Will my residence
be hit tonight? Will I live to see the morning light? Fear runs rampant through my mind As each shadowy eve approaches The sounds of marching footsteps Overtaking the thoughts in my mind My life has
become a pawn in war games For trade, barter, and sale For the elusive head of a man That is my leader and ruler From a nation we have done Nothing to hurt or maim They guarantee ultimate freedom Of
my leaders violent ways Words that have an empty hollow ring Of an oath made in previous days I pass through my daily life Fearing now what I say and do May leave me shot and dead along The dusty
roadside because I may misinterpret their words I lay my head down upon the cushion These thoughts linger in my mentality Terror of the nighttime events to come As the eve of bombs in Baghdad Begin
over once again.

Dedicated to the US Soldiers who fight for my country and the mixed
feelings of this war we all have
Eves in Baghdad (Part II)
I sit in this hand-dug trench My unit and gun by my
side I fight for my beloved country The colors of red, white and blue I do not ask the reasons why I am a soldier for my motherland This is my commitment and promise I will never forsake my oath We
barrage the skies at night Strategically let off to protect The many innocents of this land The smells of burning fill my senses The unbearable heat mists my eyes I am in a foreign country who May or
may not want me here While my family prays for me Across the many miles of sea I walk the streets during daylight Seeing the faces of my enemy Who also may be my friend? I will give aid to whomever I
can But must guard for the disguised ally I must live with the looks of fear From the innocent victims of war As they look to me as the cause Some thank me for my service While others ask me to go
home I am a strange man in a strange land Settling in my trench for the night As the eve of bombs in Baghdad Begin over once again.
