I Sit On My Front Porch
I sit on my front porch Cigarette in my right hand Watching the luminous circles Of
smoke wafting in the air
The mailman stopped by With messages for me in tow Smiling he hands it over to me I look through to see what I have
A bill, what joyful glee A different person to owe Advertisements
with all the Money that can I can save
One more letter from the school Telling me of what they will do How they will protect my son When a red alert will occur…
They will keep him inside Not
allowing me to be near Denying me my right To be with my child, my son…
I continue to sit and wonder What I could possibly do If an attack shall come today Can I ever really shield him?
The
times of existing in fear Have come down upon us Though we go about our lives As though it has not changed.
So I continue to sit on my porch Cigarette in my right hand Watching the luminous circles Of
smoke dissolving in the air
